Fort Myers

Lemur at the Naples Zoo

Ft Myers is a tropical paradise on the gulf coast side of southwest Florida.  It is called the "City of Palms" for its beautiful palm-lined streets.

At the Imaginarium Hands-On Museum & Aquarium students experience hands on science exhibits.  They can touch live sea life, be blown away by a hurricane, or run through a rainstorm. Highlights include the new 3-D film, Sporty Science Arena, a virtual sports simulator, SOS Planet, a marine touch tank with stingrays & more, and exhibits displaying live sharks, turtles, swans, and iguanas. There are daily Hands-On Fun Shows with LIVE animals.

Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens is a historic tropical garden founded in 1919 with exotic animals surrounded by mature trees and exotic plants.  The botanical collection was planted fifty years before the animals were introduced, so the exhibits carefully maximize the space around decades old trees.  Because of this special need to conserve space, you will be very close to the animals - often just three or four steps away!

Thomas Edison Henry Ford

Historical attractions include the winter homes of American geniuses Thomas Edison and Henry Ford.  You can see Edison's fascinating experiments as you walk through his laboratory.  A 15,000 sq ft museum houses hundreds of Edison and Ford remarkable inventions.

The historic research and contemporary gardens consist of approximately 20 acres of lush tropical botanical gardens, 500 unique plants, flowers and trees.  225,000 visitors per year make it one of the 10 most visited national historic homes in the country!

Giant Sloth at Southwest Florida Museum of History

The Southwest Florida Museum of History is in the former Atlantic Coastline Railroad depot.  Historic Exhibits show Paleo Indians, the Clusa, the Seminoles, Spanish explorers and early settlers.  An authentic replica of a pioneer "cracker" house, a 1926 La France fire pumper, and a 1929 private Pullman rail car are also included in the tour.
